This is my homemade swamp cooler that I made out of a 18 gallon storage bin. I am using a Holmes Blizzard fan to blow out the cool air. The air gets cooled by a wetted media pad. The media pad is synthetic, and the brand is CoolPad, which you can find at some of the big box hardware stores. A fountain pump is used to keep the pad wet. I built the frame for the pad out of Legos, and used zip ties to attach the PVC pipe and the pad to the frame. Yes, the water is usually green, and this is from the cooling pad.
