by Karen Zatkulak Sweltering, scorching heat rips through the Tennessee Valley. As of Monday morning, Chattanooga hospitals had treated twenty people, with heat-related illnesses, since Saturday, one of those cases was deadly.The hot weather has many people worried about those working outside. But, we found several workers suffering from the sweaty temps while slaving away inside. Sweat pours off a worker's face and even soaks through his tyvek suit. He's spraying insulation foam, and even though he's not to the attic yet, it's already unbearably blistering. He's spraying the insulation through a new home, a tiresome and toasty job. Jason Bush with Foametix of Chattanooga says, "Since last tuesday it really started getting hot and it's been real hot, pretty miserable."If the suit, the mask, the headcover weren't hot enough, the spray itself hits 135 degrees and often splashes back on top of the person working. Bush says, "If we are in an attic it can reach up to 120 degrees, out here it's probably 90 or 100 degrees."It's just as boiling in the back of Champion Cleaners, where fans are turning just as fast as the dirty laundry itself. There's no air conditioning in the back room, and with the steamers, presses, and irons, it's scorching.Christine Pickett has worked there for 14 years and says, "Cause of all the steam, gotta lot of hot presses, you know it all runs together."There's plenty of gatorade and water, even an ice cooler full of drinks.
